How to implement House "Claiming" and fortification

There are many challenges that come with this feature, but I think they can be overcome... and this is how I would intend to do it.

The first challenge, is the limited number of houses on the map. Obviously you want to combat the situation of too many houses becoming "Claimed" and blocking loot spawn access to other players.

My solution: Only clans can claim in-world houses. A clan must contain perhaps 3 or more players before they have the option to claim a house. Also, only one house can be claimed per clan. The idea is obviously to make it harder to claim a house, increase the utilization of claimed houses... and in this way encourage players to team up and work together.

The second problem is loot spawning: For balance reasons, loot would no longer spawn in a house while it is "claimed"

    3rd challenge: Raiding
Raiding houses would be similar to bases. Every house door would be locked to non-clan members and require breaking through by base raiders. Perhaps "lock Kits" could be added to further secure storage... and require raiders to utilize "Lock-pick kits" to open

    4th challenge: Building and storage
Obviously you're going to want to use the house... Dressers, fridges, closets would act like storage crates. In addition, small other items could be built and placed... such as crates, gnomes, power generators, etc

The front and back yard could also allow item placement for things such as tents, camping tables, etc

    5th Challenge: Fortification
Because doors can only do so much, there has to be some of upgrading and building of defense. So within the house property, create special building parts for Home fortification. Outside, these things would include things such as gates, walls, and upgrades such as metal, barbed wire, etc... Inside, upgrades would be window bars, shutters.... metal doors, etc.

    6th challenge: Vehicle storage.
Claimed houses (with garages) would be able to store vehicles (Number depends on size, 1,2-car garage?) Anything blocking the garage (like junk cars) of a claimed house would despawn so you have room to park and players could manually open the garage door just like base gates.

7th Challenge: Going further with upgrades: The Bomb Shelter
I propose a new ultra-rare crafting guide: The Bomb Shelter
The bomb shelter would add a special, underground bunker beneath the house. House models would need to be updated to provide a downstairs accessway once the upgrade is performed. Maybe all houses have a door to the shelter, and the upgrade guide opens up access. Or perhaps hidden stairs is placed in the back yard. This would add an extra internal layer to your fortified house, increasing security and raid difficulty.

Other Upgrades could include things such as powering your house with a generator.... to get things like lights, fridges and stovetop working. This would be very cool once features like cooking, and food spoiling are added and expanded upon.

    8th Challenge: Cleaning house
Because most houses in miscreated are pretty nasty... maybe as part of the upgrade process could be a "cleanup process" Either manually, or perhaps automatically... the longer a player claims a house... the nicer and cleaner it gets.

    9th Challenge: Decay
Lets say.... 2 weeks of inactivity unlocks a house and makes it claimable, along with all contents?

    10 challenge: Family Dog
For goodness sakes, let us find a pet dog who we can "tame" and "claim", and leave in our house to bark at nosy players and help defend our caste!

    Closing thoughts
That's all basically it.... a scattershot of ideas and thoughts into how houses could work if players were allowed to control them. I've got to think that by the time the game is done, there will be enough houses that with the proper restrictions and difficulty associated with doing so.... we could enable house claiming, which is a heavily requested feature in the community.

Your first solution, is a no-go. First off, this is not a clan based game, it's a survival game to be played by the player and not just by, or for, clans. If I chose to claim a house then, that's my right. Whether or not, I'm one or, many. It's my choice to try and survive alone, not for another person to decide if I can and / or, cannot have something. I may find a nice location and start working on it then, later on, get some friends to join me and we don't need to be a clan, just group of survivors working together. Surviving is for me to utilize all and anything I can in order to do so and if, claiming the top floor in a high-rise, an old shack in the woods or, any house in the area, is what it takes then, that's what I will do. You cannot start limiting players on what they can make use of in order to survive in a survival game. That's being done enough, already. When this game turns like that, many will leave. Many will want their money back as well. That's not what they paid for. When you make is clan based then, you take away what single player there is of this game of which, many play it solo. They find it better that way and a bit more exciting.

As for the rest of your ideas, I can accept them. No must be, "clan only," implementation.

Not knocking your idea, just giving my input about clan based games. Forming teams / clans in this game, is only a suggestion, not a must.

Nothing against you there.... I wish it could work like that.. I just know a lot of people worry about too many people taking up all the houses

Unfortunately what happens when everybody on the server tries to claim a house? Do you limit how many people can create a character per server? Stuff like that

I like your idea but I don't see this happening. Maybe if the map was bigger and more houses but too limiting right now for size of map. Still some good ideas and valid concerns. Perhaps you could make it area multiplier? As in a solo player can claim a room certainly size house/unit. That way to claim a house outright need a clan. It's a survival game and encouraging player/player interaction is ok also.

Maybe solo players could claim apartment rooms lol.

The map is about half way done now, so there is a lot of room to grow.

Imagine if a big building like the one on hayward becomes available and there is one apartment for each player on the server and its pvp safe ... And a lobby, a pool and a casino: lol jk

I dont know but a safe zone would be pretty sweet. I dont like the idea of claiming houses tho, but i would like raiding to be more difficult.

Players are already doing that. Building bases around houses and the houses that definitely spawn a lot of good items. Also, claiming major loot locations. I've already seen this on several servers I visit and they aren't Whitelisted.

There's one at the Fishing Village that has a base built all around it, the docks and the covered shelter. It's plot sign was on the roof of the houses and it's a tall one. This location spawns 2-3 cans of fuel, oil, food, drink, batteries, etc... most of the time, not to add whatever spawns in the garage.

As for the raiding difficulty, all the base damage can be turned off, halthough, once done, even the owner can't damage base parts to salvage them for other uses. He just has to wait for a server restart so they can be wiped from the ground. He can take the parts down and store them but, they may be parts not needed anymore and salvaged for w/e he can get out of them. I've destroyed and salvaged lots of mine when I change design or, just don't want that panel, ramp or, w/e anymore. Turning base dmg off, has it's advantages and disadvantages.

I think a better coding should be implemented for base owners so they have more flexibility as to the parts and locations of them not to add, using and destroying items. There's been several times that my panel will turn green and it not be allowed to be placed in that location. If they intended for us to be able to build unique bases by not having the snap lock system as some games do then, once my part turns green, there should be no denying it to be placed there. Since we can't choose but between certain size / length walls, etc..., we should be able to merge them into each other for the sizes we need to fit that location. For example: there's time when building perimeter walls around me base and coming up 1/2 meter short of placing a 3 meter wall there so, I try to place a 3 meter walls in there and when it does turn green, it denies me that ability. Once frustrated, I have to build smaller walls to compensate for the distance. That in return, uses more base parts than just using the one. The crafting in this game is good but, the building is frustrating.

No, I don't think so, this is an act of greed. There's just now, a limited number of players equaling to 50, there's plenty of houses (including bases) for the amount of players that play on any server. The game is for everyone, not clans alone. It's bad enough that loot spawn locations are being claimed by clans / teams already, how much more of the game you want to claim for yourselves? The game and every goddamned thing in it is for everyone, not just clans.

So your solution to everything getting claimed is to let everything get Claimed?

We aren't talking about 40 or 50 buildings getting claimed.... Because it comes down to unique users. What happens when 100 people join a server overtime and start claiming everything?

I don't know if you can give everyone a house and still allow people to loot and explore

You have got to stop this mindset where you think your opinion is definitively right, one day the world is going to turn arouud and bite you in the ass. That is, assuming you ever venture outside into the light. You sound like a proper basement dweller.

I actually love OP idea and appreciate the effort put into this thread.

What you need to do Duff is, stop running your mouth to me and allow me to have my own opinion about some things. it's already happening on the servers that allow bases anywhere. players are teaming up and claiming high end loot locations that prevent regular play like myself from exploring them. it turns into an excuse just to have more of a reason to kill players claiming they were raiding bases. I purchased this game to be able to explore what it has to offer and enjoy it. Not to let others control my game for me. As long as I follow the rules set for the server, I've done what's expected of me.

I'm tired of your mouth, why not we talking in person if you got a beef with me? I'm sure we can settle it.

I understand the opposition to having any kind of safe zone, but I wouldn't mind an alternative in the form of a social lobby which may even be in the form of an alternate server where you could interact with other players visually and audibly. It could be hosted as if a separate (small) map consisting of some such setting as Andy suggested, maybe just a big saloon or something. and just serve as a place to meet or find players to team up with and launch to another server.

So immature. Also, if this isn't a clan based game, why can we form clans and invite players to said clan? Why is there now a faction system in place that is based off of clan play?

I'd happily let you have your own opinion if you weren't wrong 99% of the time.

Also, grow up. Stop taking everything so personally.

Mayne you should take your own advice

Looks to me like your idea really rewards a clan but does little for solo players. I think all players whether in a clan or running solo should have to take the time to create their base from scratch. This rewards players that spend the time and think creatively to create a base as opposed to take the lazy way and just join a clan so you can take over a house along with premade storage and structure. I like the idea of all players having to start from the ground up.

I do like the idea of taming a pet. I was just thinking of this the other day remembering in World Of Warcraft as a hunter taming my pets. I thought, damn that would be cool to tame a 2 headed dog or a wolf ( make it extremely difficult to do) and being able to send them out to attack, then call them back to your side. It would definitely have a cool vibe running around with a ferocious pet.

It's already in the game silly. Just enter house to claim then pull shotgun to fortfy.

Sounds like you just want to block content/loot without a fight.

Also it's risky on pvp servers to build a base from scratch. Sound you don't want to take the risk or time to build your own fortified base. The game still allows bases to be built in areas that force conflict like in: roads, over caves and water towers. Just seems your looking for an ez time with little work or conflict.

I would be more inclined to support very temparary/limited forms of house fortification. Not claiming. Like the ability to barricade a doorway with furniture or a trap. Or Maybe doors on some of the houses that can be very temparary nailed shut with hammer and nails. I would suggest you would be able to quickly break into any nailed barricaded door ways.

    Totally against claiming houses.
